A legendary line-up treated fans to a show packed full of reggae classics in Manchester – with a little help from Blacka Hire.
Leading the Icons of Reggae show at the Sheridan Suite on Friday, August 9 was Sir John Holt, who was joined by fellow luminaries Freddie McGreggor, Basil Otis, Ken Boothe, alongside queen of UK reggae Janet Kay and other leading lights.
Blacka Hire provided full production at the concert in the Sheridan Suite, which kicked off Manchester’s Caribbean carnival.
Dreams were made backstage where Blacka Hire’s own Craig West, met with Freddie ‘Big Ship’ McGreggor. Craig said: “Seeing some of my favourite reggae artists of all time performing on a Blacka sound system was a dream come true and meeting Freddie McGreggor afterwards was the icing on the cake of an absolutely fantastic evening.”
The immense sound system found fans among the crowd and performers alike. Afterwards, Janet Kay got in touch to say: “I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your great PA system that I had the pleasure of performing on.
“The quality was superb and the engineers on the night were very attentive to me and provided me with the on stage sound I required. It made my job so much easier.
“It was a great show and I enjoyed every minute, performing and watching the other artists on stage, namely John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Frankie Paul and Marcia Griffiths.
“You guys are awesome!”
