Spinningfield’s Oast House now has a place in the history books after raising a glass to a world record!
A total of 322 ale-lovers headed to the courtyard to break the world record for the biggest ever ale tasting on August 7.
They were treated to three ales from Heywood’s Phoenix brewery – West Coast IPA, Arizona Ale and the ever popular Wobbly Bob, letting out a huge cheer as official Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator Jack Brockbank confirmed the record.
Afterwards, the intrepid tasters marked their part in the record with a few celebratory drinks, ensuring the party went on long into the night!
Chris Hill, operations director at The Oast House, said: “It was quite a challenge to organise, but we did it with enthusiasm and precision.
“The Guinness Book of World Records official adjudicator was impressed that we’d simply invited members of the public to participate as this can be difficult to co-ordinate. But that was really important to us – we wanted a free, fun occasion that people from Manchester and beyond could be involved in.”
The previous record was held by the Biergilde BNB in Acren, Netherlands, where 267 drinkers held a mass tasting.
